I was very eager waiting for the mail man on this one, because as i stated before, Mark Magazine is one of my favourite publications when it comes to new projects.
The October/November issue has a very nice texture on the cover, featuring Sou Fujimoto´s Log House. This issue´s central theme is “House Rules”, with 7 amazing houses on the inside.
But lets start by the beginning, with the section Notice Board.
Then we move on to Cross Section, featuring 21 built in projects (and some installations), along with 2 installations: Romolo Stanco, David Byrne, Valerio Olgiati, Fuse Atelier, Vicente Nuñez Arquitectos, Bade Stageberg Cox, Chiba Manabu, JSA, Olafur Eliaha Hadid, FT Architects, Enrique de Teresa, Zaha Hadid (pictured above with the Pavillion Bridge) and more.
Also two articles, one on the Mies influence on Batman, and a very good graphic report “Work Around The World”, on how the world is continuously working over time zones. Definitely worth checking out.
The Viewpoint section presents two cool architecture practices with their works: Caramel (Vienna, Austria) and Alexander Dierendonck and Isabelle Blancke (Ghent, Belgium). Their work is mostly single family houses and small public buildings.
And now, to the good stuff – not that the previous pages weren’t good, but the rest is amazing ;)
The Long Section starts with a photo article with photo-montages by Filip Dujardin. So the above picture is not an old building in Russia, but the art of Dujardin. The rest of his photo-montages are quite impressive, i gotta recognize i thought some could be real.
And then we have 28 pages to illustrate 7 houses, under the title “House Rules”. From the editor: The house is and always will be the breeding ground of architecture. It’s here that young architects learn the trade and that experiments take place – with materials, with typologies, with textures and methods of construction.
And the 7 choosen projects are true to that: Tubular House (Artechnic Architects), Stranded House (MAD), Black House (BGP), Cleft House (October), Grass House (KWK Promes), House N (Sou Fujimoto) and Log House (Sou Fujimoto). A good selection of new typologies, according to proposed life styles.
The magazine closes with an interesting interview to Yona Friedman, talks about his cool collages.
Well, now i’m looking forward to the December/January issue, lets see what Mark will have to impress us again.
